Doug Powell, Leader of IBM’s Design Revolution hosts BGSUGD Design Workshop with Undergrads
Doug Powell is a key founder of the Design For Good campaign, a former AIGA president, and currently leading the design revolution taking place at IBM. Students worked on improving design thinking, personas, and methodologies in this intimate workshop. Possibly a once in a lifetime opportunity to be in the room with the head of multiple national design agendas was a thrill for the many students taking part.
Doug focused on ways to reframe design challenges to generate more innovative design decision making. By altering the fundamental questions being asked of designers, students were generating new takes on long-held design concepts within the first thirty minutes of the session.
The design workshop at BGSU was followed that evening (September 28) with a keynote speech by Doug in the Thomas B. and Kathleen M. Donnell Theatre in the Wolfe Center at BGSU. Doug’s appearance dovetailed with BGSUGD’s efforts working with AIGA Toledo to culminate Toledo Design Week, a week filled with high quality design events offered for free to students and the general public as part of AIGA Toledo and BGSUGD’s mission to educate and further the cause and case for design thinking.
