COURSE DESCRIPTION/COURSE AIM
This hybrid (online + face-to-face) Social Innovation course is a combination of theoretical and practical study in the Master of Design (MDes) Integrative Design curriculum and introduces collaborative and integrative processes for the purpose of developing innovative solutions to complex social problems. The course will explore collaborative methods along with design thinking applications to examine, research, and respond to interconnected systems in challenging issues that face today’s society. Innovation in context to business, economic, and societal impact will be explored.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
The focus of the course is to critically study problems and explore solutions to social challenges through an intensive six-week collaborative studio workshop. In pursuit of innovation, this course will examine the ethics, equity, diversity, and authenticity of social innovation solutions in support of responsible futures with consideration toward economically and environmentally viable outputs.
